What legacy are you leaving?
Over the last two weeks, I’ve heard story after story about the incredible legacy Phil Robertson has left behind. From the bayous of Louisiana to the lives of countless people around the world, his testimony has touched hearts, transformed souls, and pointed many toward Jesus. His story is one of redemption, bold faith, and unwavering commitment to sharing the gospel. It’s challenged me to stop and ask myself a deeply personal question:
What kind of legacy am I leaving behind?
Legacy is not just about what we leave for people, money, possessions, or achievements, but what we leave in people. It’s about the seeds we plant through our actions, words, and faith. Phil’s story is a powerful reminder that a life surrendered to Christ, no matter how broken its beginnings, can become a vessel for eternal impact.
“The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.”
— Proverbs 20:7
That verse keeps echoing in my heart. Phil didn’t build his legacy on fame or success, though he gained both. He built it on truth, on Scripture, on a love for God and people. And that kind of legacy doesn’t fade. It echoes through generations.
As believers, we’re all writing our legacy each day, through how we love, how we forgive, how we serve, and how we point others to the hope we’ve found in Jesus. Whether you’re raising children, mentoring someone, serving in your church, or simply being faithful in the quiet places of life, your legacy is forming right now.
So ask yourself:
- Will people remember your faith?
- Will they recall your kindness, your courage, your humility?
- Will they know the Jesus you served?
Leaving a legacy for Christ doesn’t require a platform or a microphone. It requires a heart surrendered to Him. It begins in our homes, in our everyday conversations, in the way we live when no one is watching.
Let’s be intentional. Let’s be bold. Let’s be faithful.
And may our legacy be this: They knew Jesus because they knew us.
